“Diatomaceous Earth” Filter Media – Cerarmix lined fiberglass Pipe

Used many different materials in transfer line pumping for diatomaceous earth and water mixture to filtering equipment. This food processor had tried carbon steel, Stainless Steel, PVC, and may other piping systems with limited success. Longest service-life seen at the time of installation: 3-6 months. The photos were taken January 7th, 2013, when the system was shut down.

Wet Corn Mill – USA Fiberglass Trenches

Fiberglass trenches designed with the chemical environment and ease of installation in mind. The goal was to reduce downtime. Unlike conventional form and pour trenches, the fiberglass trench would not require a chemical resistant lining after installation. Smit Group, LLC. did a layout and design to utilize existing stainless steel trenches and maximize the dollars spent. The added CAD layout helped the contractor in this multi-phase project make ends meet, from one phase to the next.

Wet Corn Mill – USA Custom fabricated and lined header

A major wet corn mill needed a solution to aggressive CIP chemical integration into one day tank. Smit Group, LLC. and Fusibond Piping System designed and fabricated a Tefzel (ETFE) lined header system. It provided the lowest rate of permeation compared to the previous  PTFE lined piping components. The custom header was fabricated as one piece (first) and roto lined with Tefzel (ETFE). This melt processable fluoroplastics formed a liner exhibiting little to no permeation in these highly chlorinated products.

Gelita USA – Mezzanines and platforms

Gelita needed a solution to the constant maintenance, painting and replacement of their existing work platforms and mezzanines. The answer was pultruded fiberglass structure and mold fiberglass grating. Armed with the original layout, Smit Group, LLC. designed and fabricated a fiberglass replacement structure; including integration with existing pipe supports and tank. We combined the design of the fiberglass tanks and the platforms to eliminate the need for multiple columns and provide open access for route maintenance work in the area.

    Gelita USA – Maceration tanks

Gelita needed to replace Carbon Steel Flake Glass and Rubber lined maceration tanks. They suffered from poor service life and serious corrosion issues. The tank's internal slope and false bottom made the redesign a challenge, but Smit Group, LLC. solved the problem by engineering fiberglass reinforce plastic (FRP) tanks.

Desert Star Energy Center – Turbine Intake Filter Access

The client needed safer access to the turbine intake for maintenance and filter replacement. A series of ladders and hatch doors was cumbersome and had inherent safety risk. Smit Group, LLC. and Ultra Fiberglass Systems designed an access system to improve safety and ease maintenance access. Working with a site contractor, who installed exterior access doors, this joint collaboration provided the client with solutions to their problem.
